2015 Home Tour Recap + People’s Choice

It’s hard to believe that the 41st annual Spring Tour of Homes has already come and gone. Our hats are tipped to the many hands which made a memorable tour and another success for Riverside Avondale Preservation. For the third year in a row, we’ve gathered up pictures from our favorite stops to help with your post-tour withdrawals. Scroll to the bottom of the page to vote for your favorite home in our “People’s Choice Award” poll!

Best “Old Jacksonville” Charm

1649 Osceola is our pick for Best “Old Jacksonville” Charm. This Prairie style Schoolhouse was built in 1913 by famous American architect, Henry Klutho. We spent extra time in each room, taking in every detail, since no pictures were allowed.

Best Layout

2136 St. Johns Avenue is three stories (plus balcony) of amazing. The homeowners were able to start with a blank slate, building this home on a vacant lot. Front entrance to exit, the flow through the home is continuous. Did we mention the view from the rooftop? Wow!

Design Star

This year, our pick for Design Star goes to the talented Troy Spurlin of Troy Spurlin Interiors. His aesthetic is on point, to say the least. Troy’s home/office combo was the recipient of the 2015 Riverside Avondale Preservation’s “Outstanding Business Renovation” award and Jacksonville Historic Preservation award for his meticulous restoration of 2357 Riverside Avenue.

Most Memorable

If you haven’t met a friend on the porch of Riverside Avondale Preservation’s new/old headquarters, it won’t be long before you do. We’d compare the atmosphere to a home for the neighborhood; Anyone belongs. The Buckland House, located at 2623 Herschel Street, showcases a restoration and renovation project which would not have been possible without the vision of Executive Director, Carmen Godwin and her team.
