Front Yard Urn Planters

Recently we added two urns to our front yard. We tried several placements (maybe a few more than several) but settled for placing them at the end of the walkway. Though we aren’t landscape designers, we decided that by putting the urns at the end of the walkway we added depth to the yard.ImageSo after these honkers were arranged, we headed to Phillip’s Garden Store to pick out our plants. Don’t roll your eyes, but… there’s a science to planting in an urn. The internet does not lie.

Remember these three things when picking out container plants:

  1. Filler
  2. Thriller
  3. Spiller

The rhyme is easy to remember and pretty self explanatory. Using these three types of plantings you will fill the pot, add visual interest and soften the lines by allowing the plant to spill over the edge. If you want to stretch your landscape design skills, consider texture, shape and color when you pick out your fillers, thrillers and spillers.
